Golf galore!

There is an array of lush golf courses located throughout the Orihuela Costa and its neighbouring regions of Murcia and Alicante. Some of these courses have been designed by golf legends including Seve Ballesteros, David Thomas and Jack Nicklaus and designed with all golfer’s handicaps being considered. Four of the local golf courses appear within Golf World´s current Top 100 list of the best Spanish Golf Courses. Local golf courses include:

Villamartin: This course opened in 1972 and is one of the most established courses in the Alicante province. This par 72 course, 6,132 meters from the white tees, 6,037 from yellow, and 5,259 from red. Hole 17 counts as a signature hole and is a par 3 with more than 200m from the back tee. Villamartin Golf is also popular with players due to its location next to the Plaza with its wide choice of bars and restaurants.

Las Ramblas: Located very close to Villamartin this beautiful par 72 course opened in 1991, built in the hills with lots of pine trees and rolling fairways. This is a challenging course and not for the faint hearted. Las Ramblas means ‘The Dry Ravines’ and many tee shots are over or alongside a ravine so take plenty of balls!

Campoamor: Located adjacent to Las Ramblas and opened in 1989. Campoamor course is suitable for both professionals and amateurs alike. Wide, long fairways are the trademark and it is ideal for big hitters having the longest par 3 of any course in the area.

La Finca: Set alone in its own valley with breath taking views, this magnificent course was opened in 2002 and built and designed to host open championships. La Finca is located near the town of Algorfa, which is approximately a 20 minute drive from Villamartin.

La Marquesa: La Marquesa course is located in Ciudad Quesada, Rojales, not far from La Finca Golf Course. It is approximately a 25 minute drive from Alicante Airport. Founded in 1989 this course is for golfers of all levels and skills and although challenging it is never burdensome as the tees are all close to the greens.

Lo Romero: Situated in Pilar de la Horadada, which is approximately a 30 minute drive from Murcia International Airport. Lo Romero is one of the newer courses on the Costa Blanca having opened in 2008. It is well maintained and looks and plays like a well-established course.

Las Colinas: Las Colinas Golf & Country Club opened in 2010 in Campoamor. This beautiful course extends across the valley and between the hills and with numerous tees at each hole. It is suitable for professional competitions whilst offering players of different standards and enjoyable game.

Vistabella: At Vistabella Golf there is room for everyone.  The course is located near the town of Los Montesinos. The course was designed so that all capabilities of player can enjoy their round. Tee placements means that each hole can be adapted for all levels of players. Its undulating fairways, strategic bunkers, testing greens and a large lake, are some of the features that make your round one of the best in the area. An 18 hole course, par 72 and nearly 6,000 meters long, it has been designed along the lines of all modern courses with a range of tees to suit every player, broad fairways and challenging bunkers and greens.

Murcia Golf Courses:

Alhama Signature Golf: Alhama Signature is considered one of the best golf courses in Spain. An 18 hole course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, it is an American style course set amongst 5 large lakes, 116 bunkers with very peculiar and varied shapes, original circular tees, wide streets and fast greens. Distance to Murcia International Airport (Corvera) is approximately a 30 minute drive whilst Alicante Airport is approximately a 1 hour and 10 minute drive away.

Altorreal: Situated in the hills above the city of Murcia and only a few kilometres from the city of Murcia, Altorreal is an extraordinary course designed by Dave Thomas. It is a renowned 18-hole-course and is 6.239 m long with par 72. It is notable for its strategic use of water, which comes into play particularly on the 9th and 18th holes. It is a challenging course for players of all abilities.

Camposol Club De Golf: Camposol Club de Golf is renowned for providing one of Costa Calida´s most enjoyable and affordable golf experiences in Spain. The golf course offers a challenging 18 holes, par 72 and is 5,895 metres. Opened in 2004 it is set in a natural Mediterranean landscape and has matured well with attractive lakes, olive groves desert areas and palm trees to add interest.

El Valle Golf: El Valle Golf, a medium-length, par-71 golf course, situated in a beautiful natural desert valley. The golf course is routed in a ‘core” format that groups several holes together while keeping the surrounding development on the perimeter. This means many holes border other golf holes and not houses, creating a more open and natural golf experience. Rather than length, the course relies on numerous subtle strategic elements to challenge golfers. This course puts a premium on accuracy, not power, and favours the intelligent player who can manage his or her game.

Hacienda del Alamo Golf: Hacienda del Álamo is one of the most extensive professional-level golf courses in the region. Designed by Dave Thomas, this sophisticated circuit has 18 holes, a par 72 and is 6,700 m. Its 18 holes are laid out over 92 hectares of land, culminating in a total of 5 hours of course play.

Hacienda Riquelme: Hacienda Riquelme Golf Course is part of 4 courses that make up the GNK Golf Circuit. Built to championship standards the 18 hole, par 72, 6,356 metre Nicklaus Design course features four sets of tees per hole, presenting challenges to all levels of golfer. It has a range of elevations and uses the natural contours of the land to provide an exceptional golfing experience.

La Manga Club: If there is one sport that distinguishes La Manga Club as one of the best sports resorts in the world, it would have to be golf.

The resort is home to three 18-hole golf courses and, in recognition of its 50 years of existence and thanks to its high quality facilities and wide range of services, the resort’s golf club was named ´Real Golf La Manga Club´ in 2017 by The Royal Household of Spain. This honour would not have been possible without the invaluable support of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, Golf Federation of the Region of Murcia and the Regional Government of the Region of Murcia.

Mar Menor Golf Village: Should you decide to play on this course that has been designed by two great worldwide golf players, you may enjoy two playing sensations on the same course.

David Thomas designed the first nine holes of Mar Menor Village Golf, par 37 of 3,275 meters as its greatest distance. It demands good strokes to put the ball on its courses with hardly any rough. Its greens are well protected by bunkers and by the water of the lakes around the course.

The second nine holes that were designed by Nicklaus Design are par 35 of 2,878m, as its greatest distance, it has wide courses and wide roughs that allow big strokes. The spectacular lake around holes 13, 14 and 15 deserves special mention, making the water the greatest obstacle to be overcome. The rest of the holes are protected by strategic bunkers.

Peraleja Golf Club: Peraleja Golf course was designed by Severiano Ballesteros, it has 18 holes, a total distance of 6,250m and is a par 72. It is a gently undulating course with strategically placed bunkers and lakes, designed to challenge the players throughout the whole round, making the game a unique and enjoyable experience.

Roda Golf: With its lush, rolling fairways, lakes and palm trees, Roda Golf Course is glorious, but this beauty is no accident! The course’s stunning landscaping is the result of careful planning and technical expertise. Dave Thomas, one of the most prestigious European golf designers created the 18-hole, par 72 golf course. The layout was created by combining different environments and adapting to the Mediterranean landscape and vegetation. The signature hole is the 7th, with its island green.

Saurines De La Torre Golf: Saurines de la Torre Golf is an 18 holes par 72 desert style golf course with influences of the Nicklaus golf course in Lake, Las Vegas. Its main characteristics are undulating fairways and greens among desert dunes, few bunkers and a great 6 hectare lake. Holes 9 and 18 go around the lake, which guarantees an exciting final.

Sierra Golf: The New Sierra Golf course offers its customers a charming and careful 9-hole golf course (9 holes remaining in project) with a noble design ideal for all styles of game.  Whatever your ability this course will provide you with holes which are challenging. The lakes and desert landscape provide an interesting environment and the bunkers are often a real challenge.

Alicante Golf Courses

Alicante Golf Course: A challenge for the game and a feast for the eyes! Set on the shores of the Mediterranean is Alicante Golf, located on the spectacular San Juan beach just 5 minutes from the centre of Alicante.

Seve Ballesteros designed the spectacular par 72 with a singular layout of 6 par 3, 6 par 4 and six par 5, which means that you never play two consecutive holes with the same par on the same round. Seve designed 5 large lakes affecting 12 of the 18 holes. All of which supposes an attractive challenge for golfers of all levels.

Font de Llop: The course, designed by Blake Stirling and Marco Martín, offers championship size course that has five tees for each hole, with each green having its own personality. An 18-hole, par 72 golf course of American design and Scottish layout, will prove to be a challenge and a delight for all kinds of players.

The hills integrated into the valley, the natural water courses and a small river that inter-connects five ponds, make these 18 holes a marvellous excuse to enjoy the open air and have fun together with other friends.

El Plantio Golf Club: Located close to Alicante Airport and the hillside that it is built on works as a perfect buffer against the sound of planes. The El Plantio course consists of an 18-hole par 72 and 9 hole Par 3. El Plantio par 72, layout includes a mixture of trees, water and bunkers, along with large and sloping greens to provide an excellent and challenging day of golf.

Alenda Golf: The Alenda Golf course has been designed and built by Roland Favrat. The course was completed in October 1999. It occupies 49 hectares of land, 18 holes par 72 and 6,257 meters of travel, in addition to an excellent practice area.
