Located to the south of Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa has some superb beaches along the Costa Blanca coastline, most of which are Blue Flag accredited. The region comprises of many well established residential areas. There is an abundance of restaurants and bars throughout the area.
Orihuela Costa is also home to the very popular Zenia Boulevard Shopping Mall which is one of the largest shopping malls in the region of Alicante. It houses many stores including Zara, H&M, Guess, Van´s, Massimo Dutti, Mango, C&A, Superdry, Mango, Benetton, Jack & Jones, Adidas, Primark, Kiko, Decathlon Sports, Media Markt and Al Campo Hypermarket.
Orihulea Costa is served by five magnificent golf courses, Villamartin Golf Club, Las Ramblas Golf Club, Real Club de Golf Compoamor, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club and Vistabella Golf in the Urbanization of Entre Naranjos. Each course has many unique features coupled with amazing views. Further afield the neighbouring regions of Murcia and Alicante also offer magnificant golf courses.
In order for you to get an idea of the many different areas in and around the Orihuela Costa, we have written a short summary of the main areas below:
PLAYA FLAMENCA
Playa Flamenca boasts two beautiful sandy bays located either side of the fabulous promenade (Paseo). There are also a few little hidden coves to discover for those of you wishing to lose the tourists for a peaceful day of sun worshipping.
With its various shops, bars and eating places, there is the ever popular “Flamenca Beach Commercial Centre”, one of the liveliest entertainment complexes in Orihuela Costa. It has a great selection of restaurants and bars and is a firm favourite with Orihuela Costa’s large ex-pat communities. Our office is based on the top floor in this complex.
The area is also home to nearby golf and lots of recreational facilities such as water parks, tennis, go-carting and crazy golf. The Town Hall, Police Station and Post Office are also located here. Playa Flamenca hosts a very popular Saturday Market. For many market goers a trip across the road to visit the Celtic Isle Pub has become a tradition for “your after market, afternoon’s entertainment”. It is a very lively and raucous affair indeed!

LA FLORIDA
La Florida has a village like atmosphere and is situated next to Playa Flamenca. The Commercial Centre is very popular with all nationalities and is the main entertainment centre in the area. There are many bars and restaurants in La Florida, two in particular being very popular, the Emerald Isle and the Abbey Tavern.
The Emerald Isle is the largest owned complex on the Costa Blanca. You can enjoy the large terrace and public swimming pool and their nightly entertainment programme regularly hosts some of the best acts on the Orihuela Costa. It also has a bowling club which is considered to be the best in Spain and has held the European Championships on two occasions.
The Abbey Tavern is another renowned bar in La Florida. It is a very popular Irish themed bar and attracts lots of locals and tourists alike. It has a total of four bars. Two bars are located inside and two further bars outside. One of the outdoor bars is located in the beautiful beer garden surrounded by magnificent palm trees and the other is in a separate entertainment area which is equally as impressive. Nightly entertainment is the norm with different bands performing. They also hold festive events such as the Three Kings Day, St Patrick’s Day, St George’s Day, St David’s Day, St Andrews Day, Norway Day, Viking Day, Halloween, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, catering for most ex-pat communities in the neighbourhood. It is also very popular for watching football in and on occasion you might even spot an ex-footballer or two dropping in for a drink.
There are some excellent restaurants located in the Centro Commercial namely the fantastic and much in demand Mumbai Blue Indian Restaurant. There is also the fabulous recently opened Waldamar’s Restaurant located in the tower on the 1st floor. Local shops include a very popular mini supermarket, with larger supermarkets close by, a very popular ferreteria (hardware store) for where you can buy all your accessories at very reasonable prices when it comes to decorating your new home. La Florida also a local art gallery as well as having a local dog park to let your dogs run free, get in a bit of exercise and make new furry friends. There is also a bus route to Zenia Boulevard if you don’t fancy the 20 minute walk.
Properties in La Florida can offer lovely sea views towards Torrevieja, Punta Prima, the Mar Menor and La Manga.
LOS ALTOS
Los Altos is situated next to La Florida, but is a slightly larger area. In Los Altos you can find a number of local supermarkets, a bus service and commercial centres, including Via Park III and V where you´ll discover lots of different bars, restaurants, hair salon and post room.
Properties in this area can have sea views in addition to having views over the beautiful Pink Salt Lake in Torrevieja.
All of the above areas are located close to our office in Playa Flamenca. Other areas not too far from our office include Punta Prima, La Zenia, Cabo Roig, Campoamor, Mil Palmeras, Villamartin and the neighbouring city of Torrevieja. We will give you a guide to these areas as we sell properties in these areas also.
PUNTA PRIMA
Punta Prima is a quiet residential area popular for its seafront promenade and laid-back beaches, in particular Cala Piteras, a small rocky cove of clear water backed by palm trees. Further south along the promenade is Punta Prima Beach which has a lift for wheelchair acccess. The ever popular Punta Prima Restaurant is also located here.
Punta Marina Commercial Centre has a supermarket, JYSK furniture store, bars and restaurants. In addition to this there are a selection of newly opened restaurants and directly across the road from here. There’s a go-kart track with courses for kids and adults. You can also catch the bus from here to Torrevieja.
Properties in Punta Prima can offer sea views over the Punta Prima coastline.
LA ZENIA
La Zenia is one of the most famous resorts on the Costa Blanca. It has a lot of amenities on its doorstep including blue flag beaches, nearby golf, Zenia Boulevard Shopping Mall, lots of Spanish and international restaurants and plenty of bars with entertainment. It has three beaches within its boundary, Cale Cerrada popular with surfers, Calle Bosque and Cale Capitan. Cale Bosque is also known as the “Christmas Day” beach. In 2019 approximately 5,000 people from many European and other countries, including hundreds of Santas, Elves and other Christmas themed characters gathered to celebrate the day. This is an annual celebration gaining more popularity each year.
CABO ROIG
The main N332 coast road runs through Cabo Roig. Cabo Roig can be split into two areas, the original urbanisation that surrounds the old tower on the coast, with La Regia and Lomas de Cabo Roig urbanisations lying slightly further inland on the opposite of the N332. It is home to Cala Caleta a white sandy blue flag which enjoys a spectacular cliff backdrop. With views to the Mediterranean and to the La Manga Peninsula and Mar Menor. It is also part of the coastal path around the coastline where you can walk to Zenia beach to the north and Campoamor beaches to the south.
Cala Caleta is also known as the “Winter Beach” because of its sheltered bay and it is the beach to visit during this period if you seek want warmth and sunshine. A marina occupies the eastern edge of La Caleta beach.
Cabo Roig has lots of eateries including fine dining and casual restaurants. There is a marked concentration of bars and restaurants located along a parade adjacent to the N332. It is known locally as “The Strip” and is Cabo Roig’s main entertainment centre. There is a weekly market held on Thursdays in Cabo Roig.
Properties in Cabo Roig can have sea views towards La Manga and Mar Menor.
CAMPOAMOR
Campoamor also known as Dehesa de Campoamor, is located close to the most southerly end of Orihuela Costa. It has a fabulous blue flag beach, Playa de la Glea, which is a long white sandy beach which is perfect for walking along the seashore. There are restaurants on the beach as well as a “chiringuita” (beach bar) which is ideal for that beach side snack.
The splendid beach bar belonging to Los Collinas Golf Resort is also located here. It has an infinity pool which is open for both members and non-members. There are a multitude of water sport activities also available here.
The two most important golf courses located close by are Las Ramblas and Real Club de Campoamor.
There are fabulous views across to La Manga and the Mar Menor. There is also a nice boardwalk where you can walk to the neighbouring beach at Aqua Marina. Campoamor Marina is also located at the beach. From the club house you can walk further south towards the lovely beaches at Mil Palmeras. Additionally, Campamor is part of the “Aquamarina Natural Coastal Park”.
MIL PLAMERAS
Mil Palmeras is the most southerly resort on the Orihuela Costa. It’s an attractive and popular seaside resort boasting fine, sandy beaches, rocky coves and bays, and lots of water sports and beach facilities. It is primarily a Spanish resort but still popular with the ex-pat communities. A lot of the new developments are being built here presently. Mil Palmeras is located off the N332 and the AP7 motorway.
VILLA MARTIN
Villamartin, a prestigious golf development, is located on the opposite side of the AP7 to the beach neighbourhoods. The urbanisation of Villamartin is known for its central plaza, known locally as The Plaza. It consists of numerous restaurants, bars, shops and also houses an apartment complex. It has the feel of a charming Mediterranean village and hosts regular entertainment in its central courtyard with many international acts performing here.
Close to Villamartin in Lomas de Compoamor, is La Fuente Commercial Centre which also has numerous restuarants, bars and entertainment.
Villamartin has two championship 18-hole golf courses, Campo de Golf Villamartin and Campo de Golf Las Ramblas and is a few minutes drive from Campoamor beach.
Properties here can have sea views as Villamartin is built on hills. A lot of the new build and golf developments area located in the area.
TORREVIEJA
Torrevieja, whilst not part of the Orihuela Costa region lying just north of it, is also a popular place for Europeans to buy properties. It is surrounded by two natural salt water lakes including the amazingly beautiful Pink Lake and the Green Lake by La Mata.
There is a well-known town square in the centre of Torrevieja with a small church and street cafés, a harbour offering many different boat trips and a craft market every evening along the promenade.
In addition to this, there is a municipal sports centre, a theatre, a water park, a multiplex cinema which shows movies in English, a bowling alley plus many retail and clothes shops in the “Habaneras” Shopping Mall.
Over the past few years famous acts such as Earth Wind & Fire, Billy Ocean, UB40, Paul Young and The Jacksons have performed in Torrevieja.
